The collaboration between university and business is an important driver for innovation. It is a key “liaison” that makes universities more attractive, that enables access to motivated resources for companies, and that fosters economic and social growth of territories. This is why, in recent months, our company has increased its investment in time and resources to support a series of graduates, giving full substance to our vision on partnership with universities for growth.
The collaboration with the academic world has been going on for many years in Fantini Cosmi. It has its roots in the belief forefront of technology theory and practical experimentation do reinforce each other. This is why this collaboration has been enriched by three new experiences.
The first story features Danish Iqbal, a brilliant 27-year-old of Indian origin, who has chosen the Politecnico di Milano to build his future. Danish graduated in July in automation and control engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, with a thesis, developed in collaboration with Fantini Cosmi, entitled ‘A temperature control algorithm for maximum comfort and minimum cost’. In his words, the internship at Fantini Cosmi is an experience that he highly recommends, “because it can help you develop your personality, learn teamwork, punctuality and respect for deadlines.”
Another recent graduation project is related to the experience of Fabiano Mannara, who graduated last April from the Politecnico with a Master’s thesis in Energy and Engineering, Green Power System, entitled “Decentralised Heat Recovery Mechanical Ventilation Unit: CDF modeling and Analysis”. Also thanks to Fabiano’s work, a simulative environment of the ventilation unit with heat recovery was realised; based on tests and experiments, it was possible to modify the production of some components, which now allows much better performance in terms of air flow and prevalence.
The third story… is on its way!
A very interesting perspective of these collaborations is ‘focus’. Companies often need to distribute resources on several fronts. Hiring interns is an excellent way to ‘dedicate’ a specific person to a product or project. This makes it possible to reinforce research and development activities and, at the same time, to give students the opportunity to see the application of what they learnt at university. They have the chance to apply their theoretical knowledge to a concrete case which, by definition, presents complexities, peculiarities and unforeseen events that do not always emerge in the theoretical approach.
